Why Corporate Vocabulary Matters
The difference between sounding like a student and sounding like a professional

When you walk into your first job, you will immediately hear words and phrases that you never learned in school or college. Words like "KPI," "bandwidth," "synergy," "loop me in," "take this offline." If you don't understand these words, you will feel lost, confused, and less confident in meetings and conversations.

🇮🇳 Hindi Context
Corporate world ki apni ek alag language hoti hai — "Corporate Jargon" ya "Business English." Agar aap pehli baar office join karte ho aur manager kehta hai "Let's circle back on this after the standup," aur aapko samajh nahi aata — toh aap confident feel nahi karoge. Is week mein hum yahi corporate language seekhenge taaki aap pehle din se confident feel karein.

This week, we will cover two types of corporate vocabulary: (1) Standard business words — formal words used in professional writing and speech, and (2) Corporate jargon/buzzwords — informal phrases that are used casually in offices and meetings.

How to Speak in Meetings & Team Discussions
Phrases to contribute, question, suggest, and respond — without freezing up

One of the biggest fears for freshers is speaking up in a team meeting. You may have a great idea but you don't know how to say it in English. Or your manager asks your opinion and you freeze. These phrases will help you speak naturally and confidently in any meeting.

Phrases for Different Meeting Situations

SituationWhat to Say
Sharing an idea"I have an idea I'd like to share..." / "What if we tried...?" / "Could we consider...?"
Agreeing with someone"I agree with [Name]'s point." / "That's a great suggestion." / "I think that's the right approach."
Asking a question"Could you please clarify...?" / "I have a question about..." / "What do you mean by...?"
Adding to someone's point"To add to what [Name] said..." / "Building on that idea..." / "I'd like to add..."
Politely disagreeing"That's a good point, but I think..." / "I see it slightly differently..." / "Could we also consider...?"
Summarizing"So to summarize..." / "The key points we discussed are..." / "If I understand correctly..."
When you don't know"I'll need to check on that and get back to you." / "I don't have that information right now, but I'll find out."
Ending your point"That's my view on this." / "I'd love to hear the team's thoughts on this."
🎭 Role-Play: Team Meeting Scenario
Manager:
"Team, our conversion rate dropped this month. I'd like to hear your thoughts on why and what we can do."
Colleague A:
"I think the issue is our response time to leads. Customers are not getting a call back quickly enough."
You:
"I agree with Priya's point. To add to what she said — I also noticed that our follow-up emails are going out after 3 days, which is too late. What if we tried sending the first email within 2 hours of the lead coming in?"
Manager:
"That's a good observation. What would we need to make that happen?"
You:
"I'll need to check on our current email automation setup, but I believe we can configure it to send automatically. I'll get back to you with a plan by tomorrow."
🏆
The "One Point" Rule for Meetings
As a fresher, you don't need to speak for 5 minutes in every meeting. Just aim to make one clear, relevant point per meeting. Say it with confidence using the phrases above. One good point per meeting = 20 good points in a month = you get noticed as a thinking, engaged team member.
